Eventing season recap

Now that we are done competing for the year, I am going to look back at what we have competed in over the year.

Our season started out with a show jumping and dressage day at a local venue. We pretty much go to this every year!

Our first event for the year was Capel back in March. Our dressage went well, but I picked up an error for thinking too much about the quality of the test and not where we were going! Our show jumping was about on par for us, but cross country was spooky and it took me too long to get control and into the groove, starting out too fast and not being onto getting him back quick enough.

From there we went to Harvey, where we had another really great test, normal show jumping and brilliant XC!

Moora was a tense dressage, as normal at that venue. Our show jumping was really great and very controlled with one sad rail, and our cross country was our best so far with a heap more control.

Wooroloo was up next, an event I had not taken Coolie to. We nailed the dressage finishing in the top 10, jumped an awesome clear show jumping round, and then flew around cross country to place 5th!

Brigadoon was meant to be our upgrade but a big knock to my confidence meant we had another run at 95. Our dressage felt so much more consistent, but scored poorly. Show jumping didn't ride great either, and then we had a stop on cross country at a fence we have jumped so many times. I have no idea why but I was not riding as well, as a horse had died on course not long before we went out.

Dryanda saw another improvement in our dressage score, but 2 rails show jumping. We went clear cross country but I was quite nervous and rode defensively.

Gidgegannup was our last event of the year. Our dressage was abysmal and i was so disappointed after all the work we have been putting in. Show jumping improved things with better rhythm maintained throughout the course, again having 1 rail. Cross country was our best course, I finally let him travel, maintained control and just left him alone to do his job. It was amazing! That was also back in July!

We were entered into 3 other events, but for various reasons haven't been able to compete. this has been tough, as I have felt my confidence slipping. i'm not sure hwy because I know we can do it and Coolie is putting in 110% when we train!

After Gidge, we went off show jumping for 2 days. We had 4 good rounds that show improvement but came home without placing.

We went to WASJA but only did one round as it was taking so long!

We did a combine training day, where a dressage test that I though was terrible turned out to be the best of the year, and a clear show jumping round meant we won!

The last competition was the show jumping day a couple of weeks ago. The 2 rounds we did were probably the best of the year, coming home with 2 4th places.

While we definitely haven't had the season I had hoped for we have been quite busy! Overall we have seen improvements especially in cross country and dressage. Next year the season kicks off in February at a brand new event. Summer will be spent having a bit of down time, and then getting back into training.
