Adventures
This summer our plan is to go on all the adventures!! Since our competition got cancelled this weekend we went adventuring instead.
We went to the State Equestrian Centre for a trail ride by the Swan River with Coolie, Henry, and my bestie. Henry got off the float like it was no big deal. Coolie got off the float like he was going eventing!
We tacked up and headed out for a walk around the cross country course, then down by the river. Henry was a bit nervous on the XC course, but he let out a breath after about 10 minutes and settled really well! He handled the other horses out there and the horses who were competing on the grounds in a very grown up manner.
We walked all around, including over some logs, drops and through the empty water jump before we headed down to the river.
Both of the horses were a little nervy about going down the steep path to the water. Coolie was mostly trying it on. He has done it plenty of times before. Henry followed Coolie happily down the slope and straight into the water. We had a bit of a splash, and then then we up the other bank to the flood plain on the other side.
Fun fact, flood plains make for excellent canter stretches. Long rolling grassy stretches perfect for letting the horses let off a bit of steam. We started out trotting and then picked up canter. Henry was amazing and just bowled along no worries. Coolie wanted to go, go, go!
We got to the end laughing our heads off, so we turned around and cantered back. Henry and I went along on a long rein... Coolie was more enthusiastic but it was great fun. Henry's canter is incredible. It is so smooth and ground covering, requiring so little effort. it is the most amazing thing I have ever ridden.
We went back down to the river and went for a walk up stream enjoying the cool water. Henry seems to really be getting over his water aversion so I am pretty happy about that.
We headed back to the float via a warm up arena to give Henry a little more exposure. It was a great day out! Both the boys were super well behaved and the riders had a fantastic ride too!
